Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co
KKR Case Study
KKR (Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. L.P.) is a leading global investment firm that manages multiple alternative asset classes, including private equity, energy, infrastructure, real estate and credit, with strategic partners that manage hedge funds.
The company’s London office was exploring a possible investment in Sector Alarm, a European, traditional, end-to-end security solution headquartered in Norway.
Objective
KKR engaged bluesalve partners to provide them with market insight into the potential threats facing their investment target. In particular, their concerns focused on the following market dynamics:
- Increasing acceptance and penetration of DIY- based products and companies
- The emergence of the Big Tech entrance into the security sector (i.e. Amazon, Google, and Apple),
- How U.S. security companies were evolving to handle these market shifts
Engagement
bluesalve partners arranged for six team members (four partners and two associates) to engage in the project, including three partners with deep expertise in the smart security industry. The bluesalve team interviewed over a dozen security industry and big tech company executives from both Europe and the U.S., culled through the Sector Alarm data room and studied numerous, highly relevant documents and records. Additionally, we analyzed research data from various industry research firms.
Delivery
Our bluesalve team provided an extensive summary of marketplace trends and an analysis of the potential risks and opportunities that Sector Alarm could encounter. We also provided strategic recommendations on the product and services development that Sector should engage in to grow their business, mitigate risk and innovate past the current and future competition.
Result
Subsequent to the delivery of our work product, KKR agreed to acquire 30% of Sector Alarm.
